The University of Tennessee’s Dr David Northington’s
Student Recital
Dr David Northington has been a professor of music at UT-Knoxville since 1977. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Yale School of Music
“We are very fortunate to have right here in Knoxville such an esteemed member of the international piano community as David Northington.
Northington has performed across the United States and the world to critical acclaim and accolades. The New York Times has described him as “an immensely gifted musician…who combines the technical mastery of a virtuoso with the musical sensitivity of a poet.” When not performing, Northington has taught on the faculties of several universities.
He currently holds the position of Professor of Piano at the University of Tennessee School of Music. His many teaching awards include the Tennessee Music Teachers Association’s Teacher of the Year Award and the Tennessee Governor’s School of the Arts “Outstanding Teacher Award.” Dr. Northington has also been the recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Artist of the Year Award and “In 2010 Northington was awarded the National Artist Award for the Triennium of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society”.
